In 1997, Telecommunications for the Deaf, Inc. (TDI) awarded me their Andrew Saks Engineering Award for “outstanding contributions in improving visual accessibility to information via real-time captioning for deaf and hard of hearing Americans.” It reflected my work in designing captioning systems and equipment as well as my work on national standards committees. I was the second winner of the award, after Andrew Saks himself.
By the way, that’s not me in the picture, it’s Andrew Saks (co-inventor of the TDD).
